About the Virtual Event

CSAM-SMCA Virtual Conference

The virtual event has been cancelled.

We have been forced to cancel the virtual CSAM-SMCA 2022 Scientific Conference due to circumstances beyond our control.

The CSAM-SMCA 2022 Scientific Conference is Canada’s premier education and networking event for addiction medicine practitioners. In 2022, the event was held in-person from Nov. 3-4 at the Bessborough Hotel in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.

CSAM-SMCA is committed to making world-class addiction medicine education available to all, and in keeping with this commitment we are hosting a virtual event Nov. 17-19, 2022

Yes and no. The virtual CSAM-SMCA 2022 Scientific Conference is hosted on the Hubilo platform, the same platform we have used to host virtual conferences in 2020 and 2021. This year, however, the event will feature recorded presentations from the in-person event, including keynotes, special lectures, oral presentations, and brief presentations.

During the virtual event, participants will watch the recordings together, online, for a synchronized learning experience. During the presentation, you’ll be able to converse with colleagues in the chat, just as in previous years. However, the presenters will not be available to answer questions. There will be some gamification, but no online networking events.

Your virtual event ticket gives you unlimited, on-demand access to recorded presentations until Febuary 17, 2023.

Yes. In-person conference passes include full access to the virtual event and unlimited, on-demand access to recorded presentations until February 17, 2023.

No, virtual conference participants will not receive the same guaranteed continuing education credits that the in-person conference attendees received. However, some virtual conference participants may be able to apply for continuing education credits from their individual regulatory bodies.

About the Canadian Society of Addiction Medicine

The Canadian Society of Addiction Medicine is a national society of addiction medicine practitioners committed to helping Canadians understand, accept, and recover from substance use disorders.

We work to educate the addiction medicine community, government leaders, and the public about the prevention, assessment, and treatment of substance use disorders in our communities. CSAM-SMCA is also involved in the process of establishing guidelines and standards.

CSAM-SMCA members form a strong, diverse community of Canadians who support and care for people with addictive disorders.

Dear Colleagues,

We have been forced to cancel the virtual CSAM-SMCA 2022 Scientific Conference due to circumstances beyond our control. The company we hired to record in-person conference sessions has encountered major technical challenges making it impossible for us to proceed as planned. We truly regret this unexpected development.

What’s Next: A Move to On-Demand Learning

To remedy the situation, we are fast-tracking existing plans to build an on-demand learning platform for addiction medicine practitioners. In addition to new planned educational offerings, we will now use this platform to deliver what we anticipate will be the majority of recorded virtual sessions from the Saskatoon Conference.

A Note on Refunds

For participants who registered and paid for the virtual conference, CSAM-SMCA will honour all refund requests or otherwise apply a credit against future CSAM-SMCA online or in-person education offerings. If you have any questions regarding credits or refunds, please contact .

We also invite you to communicate with us regarding your needs and how this situation has impacted you. Thank you in advance for your understanding with respect to this regrettable situation.

Sincerely,
Nicole Bootsman and David Martell
