About

Established in 2016, the Lifetime Achievement Award is the highest honour bestowed by CSAM-SMCA. It is presented to individuals who have made an outstanding lifetime contribution to the field of addiction medicine in Canada. This contribution can be made through teaching, mentorship, clinical work, leadership, policy development, research, philanthropy or the advancement and transfer of knowledge.

Eligibility

Nominees must live in Canada and be involved in the field of addiction medicine. Nominees do not need to be members of CSAM-SMCA to be considered for the Lifetime Achievement Award. Self-nominations are not accepted. Current members of the CSAM-SMCA Board of Directors are ineligible.

Selection

The recipient is chosen by the CSAM-SMCA Board of Directors in consultation with the Conference Committee. The decision of the board and committee is final. The board may choose to not give an award if a suitable recipient is not identified.

Announcement and Presentation

The recipient is notified by the President and invited to attend the CSAM-SMCA Scientific Conference where the award will be presented. Announcement of the award will be made in the CSAM-SMCA email newsletter, by media release and the recipient will be showcased on the CSAM-SMCA website along with other recipients of the award. By accepting the award, the recipient agrees to allow CSAM-SMCA to use their image in the promotion of the Lifetime Achievement Award. See previous recipients »

Nominations for the 2024 Lifetime Achievement Award must be received by CSAM-SMCA no later than 11:59 p.m. EST on May 31, 2024.
