Mindful Meditation

Chair Yoga (25mins) 7:00am-7:25am

Many of the mat yoga poses have been adapted for the chair, offering gentle stretching to ease muscle tension due to long sitting at meetings, conferences or sitting in front of a computer. Includes introduction to breath work, stretching, gentle spinal twists, shoulder rolls and lower back release. The benefit of yoga is the integration of all the aspects of life – environmental, physical, emotional, psychological and spiritual.

Meditation (20mins) 7:25am-7:45am
Meditation is a powerful tool that has been used for thousands of years to move beyond the mind’s busy activity and emotional turbulence into a state of inner silence and restful awareness. This timeless wisdom is a process of rediscovering the stillness that is a part of our nature and integrating this calm centeredness into our daily lives. Participants will be introduced to Chakra* meditation There are seven energy centers in the body known as chakras. The chakras are major junction points between consciousness and the body, and each one is associated with a specific vibration.

Motivational Interviewing: Introduction to Advanced for the Addiction Medicine Practitioner

Wiplove Lamba, Psychiatrist, University of Toronto

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is an approach to behaviour change designed to strengthen personal motivation for and commitment to a specific goal by eliciting and exploring the person’s own reasons for change, within an atmosphere of acceptance and compassion. This workshop will provide a brief overview of MI with a specific focus on applications to addiction medicine practice. Presenters will explore theoretical components including the spirit, principles, and foundational processes of MI, and participants will leave with specific tools and techniques that they can apply in clinical care as well as strategies that can help colleagues pick up the skill.
