Wednesday, November 18, 2026

8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. MST

Hyatt Regency Calgary

Price: $175 per person (plus applicable taxes) | $125 per student (plus applicable taxes)

Light snacks and refreshments throughout the day.

Attendance is limited to 60 participants, so early registration is encouraged.

We are excited to have you join Dr. Wiplove Lamba and social work colleagues Edwin Wey and Christine Vogt for an in-depth exploration of evidence-based psychotherapies and behavioural tools that improve outcomes for patients with substance use disorders and behavioural addictions. This is the 4th year we are offering this well received program. The session will introduce you to key concepts in:

  • Motivational Interviewing;
  • Cognitive Behaviour Therapy;
  • Dialectical Behaviour Therapy;
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy;
  • Community Reinforcement Approach;
  • Trauma Therapy; and
  • Contingency Management.

The mainstay of the program is the experiential exercises: practice, practice, practice. Many people will attend didactic lectures, but never reach the confidence level to try and apply the skills in a day to day clinical care. The program is designed as a “flipped classroom”. Prior attendees report the best experience after both having seen the videos AND participation in the hand-on clinical skills sessions.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify key evidence-based therapies that can effectively engage patients in care and facilitate behavior change.
  • Describe the nuances in service delivery associated with various psychotherapies through experiential exercises.
  • Engage in experiential exercises that help develop a deeper appreciation of the skills.

We are excited to have you join us in-person on November 18th, for a full day, experiential psychotherapy workshop! See the full agenda below.

Virtual Zoom Seminars

Starting September 9th, we will offer weekly 45-minute live and recorded Zoom sessions covering the basic didactic content to prepare you for the in-person experiential day of psychotherapy training. Past topics and slide decks are listed below. This year will be similar, with the addition of an “Acceptance and Commitment Therapy” primer.

Ahead of the conference, on September 9th, we will also launch a series of virtual Zoom seminars, expertly hosted and pre-recorded by Dr. Wiplove Lamba. Each informative session will run approximately 45 minutes.

Interactive Q&A

Mark your calendars for November 4th, as Dr. Lamba will be live for interactive Q&A sessions. These sessions will cover the content of the seminars, provide insights into the upcoming in-person event, and facilitate any additional knowledge transfer. Attendees will receive a list of references related to the topics discussed should they wish to further their learning and dive deeper into the content.
